Hi Patti, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi Michiganders, my name is Patti Serafini, and I’m the proud owner of Patti’s Pet Services in Troy, Michigan.

After ten years of attending college part-time, I graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. After four long years of unsuccessfully looking for a full-time teaching job, I literally woke up one morning (during COVID-19) knowing exactly what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing!

In August of 2020, I began Patti’s Pet Services. At the start, I worked alone and offered dog walking, drop-in pet sittings, and a pet taxi service, to/from the groomer/vet. Jump ahead to 2024, almost 4 years later, I have 3 employees, 125 clients and have expanded our services to include pet concierge for weddings and overnight care. We also host a client appreciation gathering every quarter to say “thank you.”

The most gratifying, surprising gift, as a business owner, came from building lifelong friendships with our clients and a deep, heartfelt connection with their pet(s).

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has starting my business been a smooth road? I don’t think any business owner would say “yes” to that question!

There is always a learning curve in the first year or so. Finding the best software to organize our clients, their pets, and invoices, getting licensed, insured, and bonded.

Hiring employees/independent contractors adds a whole new layer of responsibility, such as payroll, taxes, and treating the staff fairly, without favoritism or discrimination. Finding time to step away and stay mentally and physically healthy while still offering A+ service and care to our client’s pets.

We offer our services in Troy and surrounding cities within 10 miles of Troy. Our services include drop in pet sitting, dog walking, pet taxi services to/from vet or groomer, overnight care (in your own home) and wedding concierge services.

We are known for our extraordinary service to our clients and their pet(s). We are proud to say that we have ALL 5-star ratings, as seen in our reviews on our Google Business page. With the help of donations from our amazing clients, pet food/pet toys/pet bedding to several rescues in the Detroit Metro Area several times a year.

Patti’s Pet Services makes a monetary donation to a local cat or dog rescue, in memoriam of a client’s pets that has passed away.

• 30 Minute Dog Walk (up to 3 dogs) – $35
• 30 Minute Drop-In Pet Sitting (up to 3 pets) $30
• 60-Minute Pet Taxi Service $25 one way/$50 r/t
• Overnight Sitting (in your home) 7 pm-7 am – $120
