Community Highlights: Meet Hector Rojas of Rojas Flooring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Rojas. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Our father, Zeferino Rojas, got into the flooring trade 28 years ago. His intention was to work hard to support his family of 4, He learned the trade in as little as 6 months installing only carpet for a company doing only multifamily apartment complex. He continued to work for this company for 15+ years. Throughout the years, he would bring us along with him to work on holiday breaks and summer vacation. Teaching us the meaning of skilled labor work. We eventually jumped on board doing the same trade working for the same company he worked at. Us brothers with a higher vision for our future realized we will never be recognized or move up in the trade working where we were at. Hector, the big brother of the 3, always pushed to bring out our skills and get into residential and commercial work. Were our potential, our skills will truly stand out and be appreciated. Struggling to be perfect in a new work environment, we worked hard and long hours, leaving every detail we can perfect in our customers’ homes or in commercial buildings. That is when we learned the love we have for our trade. Wanting everything to be perfect all the time even if that meant losing money on jobs that did not pay sufficient. In as little as 3 years, all 4 of us, Edson, Hector, Edgar, and our dad, mastered the trade and moved up our skills to be able to install any type of flooring our customer wants. From builder grade carpets to Natural fiber carpets, sheet vinyl flooring to ceramic tile. We now feel comfortable taking on any job that is presented to us and are 100% positive our customer will be satisfied! 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the hardest parts of our journey was learning how to deal with problems that came up during construction. For example, installing carpets and floors we had never seen or heard of, tearing up floors to find uneven or rough subflooring, etc. Everything we know now we learned on our own through hours of reading and researching about the job! But it was the toughest challenge of all! To this day it is still our challenge, and we never stop learning, we learn something new every day. The other big challenge was learning the business side of things. How to market the job, how to plan the job, and make sure everything goes smoothly and flawlessly from start to finish.
