Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Doww.

Jordan Doww

Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My journey started as a little shy child who needed to explore something more artistic than sports. I enrolled in local theatre, dance, and improv and had started performing regularly at the age of 10. Throughout those years, little Jordan came out of his shell, and his passion for the arts grew extensively. I started competing regionally, taking improv classes in Chicago, and started growing a YouTube following doing sketch comedy & vlogs, all before the age of 18. Then, after just one year studying film at Michigan State University, I accepted an internship in Anaheim, California to work as a Photographer at Disneyland & Disney’s California Adventure Park. With barely any money, I spent my days off Ubering all over Los Angeles, attending any open casting call I could. Within 2 months, I had landed my first commercial role, a manager, and an agent and told my family back home that I had bigger dreams to pursue and that I was staying out west. I left my internship and moved to Pasadena, CA., where I’d work part-time at a frozen yogurt shop while the rest of my time was devoted to filming content and auditioning for film & TV. As I continued to grow my YouTube following, I was able to make the leap into doing it full-time thanks to the help of my team, something that was unheard of at the time. Together, we launched a few of my most proud projects that would change the trajectory of my career – “Coming Out: I am gay, I am Human,” my official coming-out video, “Hollyweird,” my first solo comedy tour, and “It’s Sketchy,” my comedy sketch series backed by Facebook watch to name a few. This would all lead to the very day that I get the call that I am nominated for a Teen Choice award as Choice Comedian against Ellen Degeneres, Aziz Ansari, Jimmy Fallon, and more… At the time, this all felt like it happened overnight. At just 21, I had lost a Teen Choice award to none other than Ellen Degeneres – a total WIN in my eyes! Then, by 22, I land my first two films, “Reach” and LifeTime’s “Stalked By a Reality Star” & begin working a lot more extensively in the theatrical space. By 24, I was co-hosting PeopleTV’s ‘The Chatter,’ a live Twitter talk show, and working the red carpet at The Palm Springs International Film Festival with AT&T for their ‘Turn Up The Love’ campaign. Then, by 26, after moving back to Detroit, I would release my first ever original artist project and started to explore the realm of music.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Let me just say that burnout is very, very real. I was truly living the life I had always dreamed of and wouldn’t have traded it for anything, but with that came a lack of boundaries on my part. I was saying ‘yes’ to every and anything I could get my hands on. That experience was such a long adrenaline rush. After some personal issues arose on top of my very hectic schedule, I actually started to become very ill in 2018/2019. I spent a majority of the next year trying to get answers to explain my sudden mental and physical health decline. I was in & out of doctors’ offices with little-to-no answers, draining my entire savings. I was having panic attacks, full-body pain, and struggled to keep up the life I had worked so hard to build. It was clear that I needed a break, but I remained vigilant to try & keep up momentum. Then, shortly after, we’d have a worldwide pandemic – it was 2020, where everyone was forced to stay inside. I took this time to focus on myself and go inward, try to heal whatever it was screaming at me within my body. It was then that I decided to pack my apartment up and temporarily leave Los Angeles to head back home and be around family in Detroit. It hasn’t been an easy journey in the least bit, but the lessons I’ve learned and the wisdom I’ve gained through these past few years are something I will forever cherish, something I will take forward with me into my next chapter, wherever that may be.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actor, content creator, host, comedian, artist, and advocate for mental health and the LGBTQ+ community.

What are your plans for the future?
I am eagerly anticipating the release of my three upcoming leading-role films, ‘Ganymede,’ an LGBTQ+ thriller that explores the consequences of repression, which just had its festival premiere at Reeling, Chicago’s LGBTQ+ International Film Festival where it won the audience award for Best Narrative Feature, as well as an Untitled Christmas Project, and also Fairlane, a cute queer FSU short-film set in the 80’s all set to release sometime in 2024. On top of that, I also have more music on the way, all of which are truly my most favorite projects yet. So excited!

Personally, I’m eager to get back into the swing of things and explore what this next chapter will entail. I have a ton of ideas and ready to put them to paper. Stay tuned!
