Born into a low-income environment in Flint, Michigan, Dwayne Harrington faced numerous challenges in his early years. Growing up in poverty, he witnessed the resilience and strength of his community, inspiring him to strive for a better life.

Dwayne discovered his passion for barbering at the age of 12 when his stepfather made him cut hair to teach him a skill, hoping he would stay out the streets. A year later, his stepfather passed, and Dwayne, WayneTheBarber (as he’s known), started cutting hair for friends and family on his porch, a makeshift home salon. Recognizing his talent, he became determined to turn his passion into a profession despite financial constraints.
Educational Hurdles
In the midst of a challenging financial situation, Wayne encountered obstacles on his path to barber school. Undaunted, he made sacrifices, persevered, and successfully completed barbering school. His dedication paid off as he passed the state exam, securing his well-deserved barber license.
Barber School to Mastery:
Wayne worked at several barbershops, absorbing every aspect of the trade. He honed his skills, gaining a reputation for his precision and unique flair in personal grooming. Through hard work and perseverance, he became a respected figure in the local barbering community.
Entrepreneurial Dream:
Dreaming of owning his own barbershop downtown never wavered. Saving and keeping his eye on the prize, Wayne finally opens “Wayne’s Barbershop” in downtown Flint. April 1. 2023. His shop aimed to be more than just a business; it was a symbol of hope and opportunity for those facing adversity. Wayne’s Barbershop is dedicated to delivering precise cuts and top-notch services within a trendy timeframe. Our focus is on cultivating a laid-back and friendly atmosphere, fostering a strong sense of community among our valued customers. Our skilled barbers actively engage in conversations, building meaningful connections and ensuring a welcoming environment. While we happily welcome walk-ins, appointments are also available. In essence, Wayne’s Barbershop seamlessly blends expertise in barbering services with a warm atmosphere, promising a distinctive and enjoyable grooming experience for all our customers.
Community Engagement:
Remembering his roots, Mr. Harrington actively engages with the community. Sponsoring initiatives, like free back-to-school haircuts for kids and host a mentorship program, How the Clippers Saved My Life, for the youth in the marginalized community.
