Meet Jorge Lorenzo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Lorenzo.

Jorge Lorenzo

Hi Jorge, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
As a child growing up in an Afro-Latino household, I can vividly remember listening to the Caribbean sounds of Salsa, Merengue, and a bit of Calypso and Soca, as well as the sounds of 80’s and 90’s Hits. These rhythmic sounds carried me through my childhood. Growing up, I vividly remember listening to Michael Jackson on my Sony Cassette tape player while riding in the car, as well as music being played on Saturday Mornings to clean up the house, and I can’t forget the family parties.

I was inspired to begin my journey as a DJ by one of my mom’s coworkers who goes by the name DJ Bablu. My then fiancé and I at the time were searching for a DJ for our wedding. My mom sent us Bablu’s information. From the moment we did our initial interview about our vision about our event, he was there for us every step of the way. Babalu had an unrivaled passion for music and a desire to “paint the picture” of what his bride and groom wanted. Our wedding was a hit because of him, and he received many compliments. I remember the next day or so after speaking with him and thanking him that he had inspired me to take on DJing for weddings and special events! My desire for music and dance was already there and he was the catalyst for exploring this wonderful opportunity to make a future Bride and Grooms Day special!

Today, I have a primary focus on weddings and special events! I began DJing about 8 years ago and haven’t looked back! I started “The DJ Lorenzo Experience” and have recently crossed over to working with an amazing company based out of Kalamazoo, MI “Luxx Entertainment.” The opportunity to start up what was a dream, to make someone’s day special, and give it my absolute best, is what I look forward to at the start and end of every event.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the obstacles that stood in my way in this journey was… Me. I was so apprehensive of even starting my own business, let alone DJing, because I tend to be my own worst critic, and I’m pretty hard on myself. My wife really encouraged me in that area. She would often tell me, “You can do this!” “You are super passionate and fun! People will enjoy it!”

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a DJ. I started my own brand “DJ Lorenzo Experience”, and I started working with working for Luxx Entertainment based out of Kalamazoo in 2022. I mostly specialize in Weddings and Special Events! I am known for my energy! I love to see people having a blast out on the dance floor, which oftentimes inspires me to get out and dance myself! When I get in a zone with mixing, It feels so encouraging, especially watching others enjoy it. I believe it is such beautiful relationship with myself as it is a privilege to be hosting someone’s event. I am most proud of sticking with my convictions to starting up my business/ brand and entering in the Wedding and Special Events arenas. I believe in building my clients/ Bride and Groom’s relationship from the start of an inquiry to meeting with them and ultimately “painting their picture” for their event helps create a memory they never forget. I look to have lasting relationships with my clients well beyond the initial meeting.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
