Meet Michelle Tyson of Taking Back Muskegon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Tyson.

Michelle Tyson

Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started out life with a strike against me. I was born in jail. Then went to the foster care system and adopted out at a young age. I know what it’s like to feel like you don’t belong and longing to be loved. I vowed never to let my children feel unloved the way I felt.

I began to work in fast food with so many youth and young adults. Every conversation was the same. They all needed to feel that unconditional love. So, imagine God finally telling you it’s time to make your vision come true.

So, it’s important for me that my work with the youth has an everlasting impact. It’s so many youth out here feeling a sense of not belonging. I don’t do this for clout. I do it to show young people who were and are like me you can make anything out your life you want. Just pray and rely on your faith in him to lead you in the right direction.

“This is personal!”

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were a lot of closed doors and ideas taken due to not having the funding to present the events.

As you know, we’re big fans of Taking Back Muskegon Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a youth organization that is geared on helping replace negatives with positives. We do this by providing after-school programs and summer programs in Muskegon County.

What do you think about happiness?
Being with these kids are the best times of my life. I get to see smiles on young faces that should be walking around with frowns. Being able to bring joy to the hearts of these kids keep my spirits up.
