Conversations with Tiffany Patton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Patton.

Hi Tiffany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story. 
My journey with EnerLight Candle Co. LLC began in 2014-2015 as a humble hobby crafting soy candles. What started as a creative outlet quickly transformed into a genuine passion. However, it wasn’t until September 2020, amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, that I recognized a greater purpose for my candlemaking. 

During this time, I received a divine revelation. It became clear to me that I had been dimming my own light, at times, to accommodate others or to seek validation. God spoke to me, urging me to embrace my authentic self, unapologetically shining the light that He had intended for me from the very beginning, even before I was in my mother’s womb. 

I’ve always loved the power with which candles infused serenity and light, and I wanted to share that light with the world, not just as handcrafted soy candles but as symbols of empowerment, self-love, and mental wellness. EnerLight Candles was born with an unwavering commitment to creating all-natural, vegan luxury candles that offer not only a touch of elegance but also a sense of peace. 

Through my candles, I aim to encourage others to never dim their light for anyone else and to shine their eminent light daily. EnerLight Candle Co. is not just a brand; it’s a reminder to be a beacon of light in a sometimes dark world. My mission is to assist in the journey of self-love, self-discovery, and mental wellness. EnerLight Candle Co. is a testament to my belief that, just as energy is the source of all things, God is my inner source from which all goodness flows. 

In every candle I handcraft, I infuse this dedication to authenticity, self-empowerment, and mental wellness. It’s not just a candle; it’s a source of light and inspiration. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Indeed, the path to where I am today has been anything but a smooth road. As the saying goes, “Nothing worth having comes easy.” It’s a universal truth that challenges, and obstacles will surface along any worthwhile journey. However, I’ve always found solace in the belief that when God is in something, there is an underlying peace, a reassurance that no matter the difficulties, there is a higher purpose at play. 

My struggles weren’t just external hindrances; they often took the form of internal battles. Those quiet, nagging voices that question your abilities and worth, urging you to doubt yourself. They asked, “Why you?” “No one in your family has ventured into this path, so why should you?” “Why would anyone choose your business when there are so many others doing the same?” 

One common refrain was, “Most businesses don’t make it past the first year.” While this may hold true for many, I possessed a secret weapon: my unwavering faith and a profound relationship with God. I have always approached life with a kingdom-minded perspective, believing that the rules of the world do not apply to me because I am a child of a King. This mindset, instilled in me by my pastor, Pastor Keith Hudson, has been a game-changing factor that has opened grand doors and overcome not only the lies of others but, perhaps more importantly, the self-sabotaging thoughts that can hinder one’s path to success. 

My faith in God and my unapologetic belief in who He says I am have been the driving force that propels me beyond the challenges. With this faith, I have been able to not only overcome but also thrive, understanding that my journey is not just about personal blessings but, more importantly, about being a blessing to others. This conviction has been the cornerstone of my professional journey and the key to my unwavering confidence. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am what some would call a “chandler.” My specialty lies in the art of handcrafting all-natural soy candles and room enhancers. What sets me apart is that I don’t just create candles; I intentionally curate scents that enhance the mood and promote mental wellness for all of our customers. 

What I’m most proud of is the personal touch I infuse into each and every candle. From selecting scents and blending fragrances to choosing names, it’s a process that I pour my heart and soul into. Crafting a candle is like watching a piece of art come to life, and that’s a feeling that never gets old. 

In addition to our exquisite candles, we offer a range of complementary products to enhance your environment. This includes our very own TriniTea tea line, carefully selected to pair perfectly with our candles for a double dose of goodness. We also provide incense, wax melts, and room and linen sprays and specialize in creating beautifully curated gift boxes for special occasions and holidays. 

At EnerLight Candle Co, we pride ourselves on being the one-stop shop for tranquility. We are dedicated to helping our customers find serenity and elevate their surroundings with our carefully crafted products. 

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve always viewed risk-taking as an integral part of truly living life rather than merely existing in it. This journey of becoming an entrepreneur, particularly as a minority, a Black woman, and a caregiver for my father, involved taking significant risks. It would have been so easy to let fear and uncertainty hold me back, especially when caring for my dad at the age of 79. 

I’ve come to realize that taking risks is not about being reckless; it’s about believing in oneself and having the courage to bet on your own potential. Throughout my life, I’ve been more than willing to take risks for others, but becoming an entrepreneur required a different kind of courage. It meant stepping into uncharted territory with no outside capital, relying on faith and self-financing. It was a monumental risk, but it was one that I had to take. 

My fear of looking back and regretting missed opportunities far outweighs the fear of making mistakes. While I may have had moments of doubt, I never want to regret not fully embracing the person that God created me to be. The marketplace is a space that I’ve been given authority to occupy, and taking risks has not only shown me the true nature of others but, more importantly, it has revealed my own strength and resilience. 

Risk-taking has left me with invaluable lessons, and I’ve learned that it’s often through challenges and uncertainties that we discover the depths of our character and potential. It’s a journey I’ve undertaken with a professional demeanor and an unwavering, confident tone because every risk has been a step closer to realizing my full purpose.
