Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Terwilliger.
Hi Julie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our parents, Angelo & Karen Roncari along with my sisters Emily and Sarah, all opened Wexford Jewelers in 1995. Opening a jewelry store in Cadillac was a bold but not new move. We had numerous stores throughout the U.S. in Ohio, Arizona, Tennessee, and Southern Michigan. We actually started the jewelry trade in the Renaissance Art Fairs, traveling all over the county. We would make pewter, silver, and gold jewelry with Celtic, gothic, and mythological themes. By 2019 all three sisters took over as owners. We specialize in custom handmade jewelry of all kinds, with most created on premise. Expert repair and restoration are services you can also count on from us.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! Never a dull moment. Some of the greatest challenges were us getting in our own way, but we are family, and we always put that first. The recession of 2007 was a rough time, and lockdown in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic was hard.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Above being business owners, we are artists, designers, and creators. We love people and getting them exactly what they want. It’s extremely satisfying to create or achieve something for a client that we enjoy too. Some things that set us apart is that we, for one, put the customer first. We want to know their story and be a part of that. What also is unique about who we are is that we make most of our items in-house through the lost wax process.
What were you like growing up?
Our lives were much different growing up. We traveled around the country and didn’t stay in one place too long. We spent a lot of time working in the family business and creating pieces for the Renaissance Art Fairs. Art, reading, and music were always big parts of our lives.
