Today, we’d like to introduce you to Mike & Mollie Decker. Mike & Mollie was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Gabriella Csapo.
Mike & Mollie , can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi! We started Object Apparel as more of an artistic endeavor than a business making our first product (a raglan t-shirt) in 2015. Mike wanted to explore screen printing as a medium for his artwork and I told him if he was going to do that I wanted to sew some pieces he could print on (instead of just relying on ready made clothing as a medium as it limits what you can create – and is already a very saturated space). So we started printing and sewing and had so much fun with it that we haven’t stopped. While Object Apparel is still a small little brand with Mike and I still making all the pieces ourselves we are now so fortunate to have Gabby on our team to take photos of our made to order collections. She brings so much creativity and expertise and has helped us grow from a hobby to a bit more of a business.
Please tell us more about your brand, Object Apparel
We are a made to order genderless clothing brand. We sell organic clothing that is completely handmade, hand dyed with plants, screen printed and sewn in our small studio in Detroit. Our original screen print designs set our designs apart. We use very high quality organic fabrics many of which our milled in North Carolina. We use organic cotton thread, plant dyes, and water based inks for our designs. Our clothing is not meant to fit some trend but instead to be inviting and comfortable clothing that is fun to wear. We have a wide size range and I also offer custom sizing as I make everything to order. Im proud of the hard work we put in to make clothing that we hope our customers love. The biggest compliment is when people order from us again and again.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Gabriella Csapo and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Gabriella.
Before working with Gabby we either took our own pictures, would send items away to photographers to shoot on their own, or we worked with a couple photographers around town but didn’t have a consistent go to person. Gabby reached out to us on instagram and offered to shoot for us. I was hesitant to hire someone instead of shooting it ourselves but agreed and we had our first shoot together. It was with two models in our poppies print (still one of my favorite prints.) To say Gabby killed it was an understatement, she listened so well to my needs, she made the models feel comfortable and offered great direction. She offered great diversity of detail shots, product shots and shots with a more creative/lifestyle feel. Once I saw the photos there was no going back for us, we needed her and have since not gone a shot without her.
Gabby really listens to what I want and makes it happen while also bringing her own creativity and expertise to my ideas as well. She is always up for trying things and not stuck in a box which makes working with her very fun for us. Gabby is also an amazing model as well so she knows modeling tips to share with the models as well as how to get them to pose correctly, and bring out the best in them.
Gabby has helped us grow from a hobby to a small business. Photos are so important to getting online sales because people cannot touch and feel the item from a phone or computer. With the diversity of photos we get from Gabby I feel like customers can really understand what they are getting from our listings.
If you want someone that truly cares about their craft and the product you will receive then hire Gabby. She will take you to the next level.
