Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Moore.
Stacy Moore
Hi Stacy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have had a love for art since Middle School. My favorite was sketching and painting with oil pastels, watercolors, or pencils. I took all art classes from middle school through high school. I even won a few awards for my artwork along the way. As a young teen, I would rearrange the furniture in our family home and cottage. Every Friday, my sister and I had to clean the house, and I loved changing the family room furniture, my bedroom, and even the basement area.
From high school, I attended Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. I initially started as a business major. I took an “Intro to Interior Design” class in my first year. I loved the course and changed my major to Interior Design.
Looking back, my love of art, furniture arranging, and even making furniture for my dolls was a stepping stone to becoming a designer. My first job out of college was working at a carpet store that also sold blinds, drapes, and wallpaper. I learned how to measure carpets and blinds.
My 2nd job was for a custom drapery store where I sold draperies, furniture, blinds, wallpaper, accessories, and area rugs for years. I loved designing window treatments! I had to intern in the sewing room before selling drapes. It helped me when creating custom drapes because I knew the sewing process.
My last job before going out alone was where I found my groove as a full-service Interior Designer. Remodeling whole homes, working with new construction clients, and everything in between. During the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, I realized I could work from home and decided to go out on my own. It only took me 30 years, but I love owning my own business, managing a team, and doing my work. Every day I help my clients design beautiful, livable rooms for their homes!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I started 33 years ago, the Interior Design industry was a very closed-lipped community. No one would share pricing, trades, or business advice. Finding a friend in the business took time. Now friends and colleagues cheer me on, help when needed, refer tradespeople, and more. Knowing you’re not alone out there is a great feeling.
We’ve been impressed with Stacy Moore Designs, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would tell someone starting in the business to find a mentor, someone to lean on when you have questions, and someone to encourage and help you in the industry.
Join a local chapter of IDS (Interior Design Society) or ASID (American Society of Interior Designers). Meeting other professionals associated with our field can be constructive. If you are near a local Design Center, visit the showrooms, and attend the seminars. Meet people and ask questions. Chat with your local sales representatives. They have many contacts and can be very helpful.
