Today we’d like to introduce you to Sa’Mara Roberts.
Hi Sa’Mara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
When I was 12 years old, my parents were on their home-buying journey. My father had said to me, “You’re going to come along with us as we’re looking for a home, and I want you to pay attention because one day you’re going to have to do this for yourself.” My response was simply “okay.” I’ve always enjoyed learning, so I was kind of just waiting to see what this “Home Buying” process was about. I remember during the process certain things piqued my interest, it wasn’t only the visuals and the listening of conversations hearing certain terminology my little ears had no knowledge of, but the feeling as I was going into different properties. Once we got to the closing table and everything was finalized, I had a nudge in my spirit; and I told my parents with excitement as we were in the car, “I want to do what Ms. Rose does!” They told me what she does is called a “Real Estate Agent.” That was it; that was the conversation but for years… I just hadn’t been able to stop thinking about it. I just knew that I had to be 18 years old to become a realtor, and I was nowhere near that age. That’s where my deep-rooted passion blossomed to the surface, but that’s not where my journey began. My journey began in July 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. Since the world was sitting at a standstill… I had decided to finally take the steps to do something that I strongly desired to do. I paid for my Real Estate course, attended real estate school, and went from there. I then realized… This Real Estate Agent life actually isn’t for me, but! Real Estate in whole is. What else could I do in this career? I stumbled upon Real Estate Wholesaling solely based off of research, I’ve heard of it before but didn’t understand it; it seemed like a foreign language to me. I began to self-study and research even more, ending up utilizing my social media to my advantage and finding a free Real Estate Wholesaling Facebook Group which is called “Wholesaling 101 For Newbies” by the way, my Real Estate mentor Lydia Renee helped me out tremendously, and my life changed from there. If you don’t know what Real Estate Wholesaling is; I assign contracts between Buyers and Sellers. I flip the paperwork. There’s more to it, of course, but this is the basis of it. My life went from “0-100” real quick in unexpected ways; I haven’t been the same ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! The money is in the follow-up. With this business, as I’m sure any business. If you’re not consistent and disciplined, you will not see results! You will either be stagnant, or you will decline. There’s a lot of rejection in Real Estate, and in this industry, you need tough skin. My struggles is I sometimes want to give up, but my mind tends to fight back a lot and pushes me to keep going. You may not feel like doing follow-ups in this business but you have to, sometimes unexpected matters come about where you can’t move forward to closing, etc. you may have 10 deals one month, and 3 deals the next month, but that’s okay just figure out how to change that. Save the tears for the closing table I say. What has helped me in this business is the fact that I’ve experienced a lot of rejection in my life already, so it doesn’t hurt now if it happens to me. I take nos as fuel, and I end up going in smarter and harder than what I ever have, and I self-reflect. The way business took off for me isn’t normal. What made me different though is, I was hungry, and I still am. I don’t ever get full! If you stay disciplined and consistent, structure a company schedule, work on your business rather in your business, you’ll be okay.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like most about the city of Detroit is that it’s full of out-of-the-box individuals; they try to make something happen, they don’t give up! I ultimately love the “I’m not giving up mentality.”
What I like least about the city is that, unfortunately, perspective and perception is a lot of times limited because individuals has only been exposed to so much, that’s why in the future, I do have a plan in place to start up a certain organization within the city of Detroit to expose young kids to more rather than them just knowing about the hood alone.
