Hi Von, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m focused heavily on people and healthcare progression; I’m a thought-leading oral med tech professional who has been collectively raising oral healthcare standards, experiences, and clinical results since 2019. As the CEO of Inguardia Health Inc – home to the patent-pending DJOR Smart Oral Device powered by AI, I bring with me an extensive 20+ year background involving (but not limited to) cross-functional leadership, innovative trend detection, sales/marketing lifecycle management, and leveraging advancing technology in such a way that is as positive as it is reformative. Even more, I’m very passionate about not just propelling the entire oral health landscape forward through next-level prediction, real-time analytics, and monitoring competency but doing so all while influencing the push for ongoing healthcare revolutions that present-day communities and future generations alike can mutually benefit from.
Born in Macedonia, I learned early on the innate value of perseverance and possessing a strong will and work ethic to become the change you want to see. Part of that stems from my immensely humble beginnings, where toilets and hot water were considered luxuries, and part from immigrating to Canada with my parents, who sought a better life with just one suitcase in each hand. With this as my foundation, it ultimately became the catalyst for myself to use these new roots to apply my innate ambitions, altruism, and passion for growth toward the technology sector. To myself, technology for social good is the cornerstone gateway for a positive trajectory future, a perspective lens that influenced the inception of the DJOR Smart Oral Device.
Prior to becoming the CEO of Inguardia Health DBA DJOR Smart Guard and spearheading all phases of the product design, development, and strategic execution, I initially began my career as the Founder and CEO of Vane Protective Gear in 2011 – a leading provider of monitoring sensors until 2019. Here, we capitalized on the strengths involving forming executive partnerships, sales training, talent recruitment, market planning, B2B account management, and overseeing all operational/revenue aspects of the organizational pipeline. This tenure was followed after attending the University of Windsor and after a long ambition to challenge the status quo regarding personal and professional change agency. That said, much of my successes throughout my life and career are a result of my innovative passion, strategic aptitudes, and rich adeptness involving all areas of business, customer service, team/leadership, and product development. But more characteristically, it also comes from my motivating ambiance, competition-less motives (DBA DJOR Smart Guard utilizes the saliva, so there is no direct competition), and reputation for leading with both a moral compass and deep, human-centric intentions.
Measurably in addition, for leading Inguardia Health DBA DJOR Smart Guard to become one of the most revolutionizing assets in oral health care and innovation. Over the course of these successions, my efforts have certainly not gone unnoticed, as I’m also the recipient of various accolades for my exemplary service. Some of the more notable include the Top Leader Award and the coveted President’s Global Reward. Overall, I’m a professional who firmly believes that better business, health, and community futures start by instilling positive impacts today and understanding that the most successful outcomes are the ones that stem from strong partnerships and the formation of shared value in teams.
I currently reside in New Baltimore, Michigan with my wife Sheila of 29 years, and I’m a proud father of two: daughter Kelsey who is 25, and Son Nathan, who is 23. When Im is not busy empowering teammates and fostering external partnerships, I enjoy spending time with my family, meeting new people to expand my network, playing sports such as hockey and MMA, and boating on the water every weekend.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, it was quite a difficult road at first. Inventing new technologies, from napkin sketch to shelf space, was very difficult. Especially when it comes to new innovative technologies. When I was in the designing stage, I wanted to create a company with no competition. Now why would I want to compete with companies like apple and oura ring fitbit. They have billions for marketing and advertising.
When I first had the inception to work with biosensors and developing the technology, there were so many people who thought I was crazy, a mad scientist, nut job LOL that will never work. Well fast forward a few years, those same people are not laughing any longer.
That is how I came up with DJOR SMART GUARD. We have no competition; we use the oral interfaces, which are completely accurate and reliable. We utilize the saliva to monitor/analyze /track/predict health metrics. We have the capacity to analyze and predict hundreds of diseases. You can tell exactly how healthy a person is by your mouth. We can predict heart attacks, strokes, seizures, oral disease to just name a few. My intent when I formed the company was to save lives.
Patenting the device was a challenge as well. You have to be very specific when it comes to patenting the device and software. That was also an obstacle we overcame. We now have multiple patents in utility design and software.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
To date, the DJOR Smart Oral Device is undergoing expansion into 45 countries worldwide, and we are in the process of partnering with numerous companies. We are renowned for its capability to analyze hundreds of different parameters in the mouth with unmatched precision, its fully customizable attributes, and real-time data collection all fostered through the powering of AI.
I now have an extensive team, and I’m privileged to work with some of the most brilliant minds globally. Dan Keczmer, who played 12 years in the NHL, is our VP of medical sales. Dan believed in me when no one else did. He has been with the company from day one. He has been through all the highs and lows and stuck with me. Dan is a brilliant executive who has vast experience in sports and global sales. Pete Wojtkowiak, who is our Chief Technology Officer who has been with me from inception also highly intellectual professional believed in me and technology from day one. Dr. Cindy Howard has been with me since I had my prior company VANE Mouthguards. Dr. Howard brings 25-plus years of clinical internal medicine, nutrition, chiropractic, and acupuncture to the table. Tom Zheng just came aboard; Tom has a Ph.D. in sports science. He has experience in regenerative therapies, injury prevention, and optimizing human performance.
The technology is quite simple. You place the device in your mouth for a few seconds, let the app do the rest. We collect five data metrics per second, so it’s very high-tech and accurate. You have the capacity to do remote monitoring as well. It was designed for senior living and home health care. You can analyze and monitor your health data or a loved one’s health data. It has customized alerts and predictive analytics. So, it’s favorable for the military, hospitals, and senior living facilities.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I do not plan on owing the company for the next five years. My plan is to leverage it with other companies and sell the organization. There are so many outcomes you can do with AI, and we are working closely to capitalize on the advancements. AI is changing the medical and oral industry. DJOR SMART GUARDS has and is working on advanced detection systems like cancer, heart diseases, and neurological conditions at an early stage. This leads to better prognosis, treatment and saves lives.
We are working on smart health records: AI-powered Electronic Health Records (EHR) can personalize patient care by automatically updating the patient’s medical history and creating individual care plans, resulting in better treatment plans and reduced errors in medical data.
Also noted, we are working on predictive analytics: AI algorithms can examine patient data and identify risk factors that could lead to poor health outcomes. This helps doctors develop proactive interventions to alleviate or prevent those risks.
We are also working on virtual healthcare: AI-powered healthcare chatbots can provide patients with immediate answers to their queries, monitor their conditions, and alert caregivers in emergencies.
Overall, AI is revolutionizing the healthcare industry by augmenting doctors’ abilities and speeding up the rate of diagnosis and treatment.
Additionally, AI is also helping to reduce healthcare costs by automating routine tasks, improving administrative operations, and identifying inefficiencies in the system. This technology also provides valuable support to medical professionals, such as aiding in drug discovery research or helping to develop personalized treatment plans for individual patients based on their genetic and medical data.
AI is transforming medical research and drug development by speeding up the drug discovery process, predicting drug efficacy, and identifying pharmaceutical interactions which could lead to adverse side effects. We are on top of building all Algorithms for the advancements in oral med tech.
Moreover, AI-powered wearable devices are tracking real-time patient data, providing accurate and personalized insights to doctors, resulting in improved care delivery and outcomes. The ultimate goal of the company is to save lives; we have developed that simplistic tool. So, what we do in the next 5 years? You will have to wait and see.
