Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Ritchie.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Gladwin, MI, then graduated from college at Northwood University in Midland, MI with a degree in Advertising/Marketing/
Coloring my hair from golden blonde to medium brown led me on the most amazing adventure, right into the arms of my House of Colour business. I was looking for clothing colors that would go with brown-haired women and stumbled upon a YouTube video that would eventually change my entire life. I discovered there was a company that would help me figure it ALL out – what colors of clothes, hair, makeup, and jewelry are best for ME. After a quick search, I found the nearest HOC consultant was over 3 hours away from me. Once I learned there was a business opportunity where I could bring this amazing service closer to home…the rest is history!
I immediately booked an appointment for my color and style analysis. Then, C-word happened. A little apprehensive, I went through with my style class virtually, but since color analysis has to be done in person, I rescheduled my colors for a later date. I had a lovely experience for my virtual style session! I learned what necklines, scale of patterns, and what rise jeans I needed for my body architecture. Since I thought I already knew I was an Autumn, I went shopping for all the things. I was in search of pretty details, cute accessories, and dresses that gave me waist definition. All things I learned were a good fit for my clothing personality.
A couple weeks later, I drove over 3 hrs. to do my color analysis where I learned I’m actually a… WINTER. All those years of wearing moss green, mustard yellow, and all the golden tans were actually not doing me any justice. Trends. They drive our buying power, and if we don’t know better, we fall into the trap of buying what looks good on others. Trust me, I know. I spent years doing it, too!
House of Colour completely changed my life, and that is why I am so passionate about bringing this amazing service to others! #investinyourself #youcantaffordnotto
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The right outfits increase how you feel about yourself. According to a 2018 article published in Forbes Magazine, within the first seven seconds of meeting, people will have a solid impression of who you are – and some research suggests a tenth of a second is all it takes to start determining traits like trustworthiness. That’s a QUICK first impression.
House of Colour was the answer to so many of my problems in life. I had a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. I didn’t know what hair color to ask for at the salon. Choosing a nail color was always a struggle for me. Choosing gold or silver jewelry was also daunting for me. House of Colour took care of all the decision fatigue I was faced with.
The prestigious nature of House of Colour is what attracted me to want to be a House of Colour Franchise Owner. This isn’t your Grandmother’s Color Analysis. House of Colour is an experience of a lifetime! It will change your life! The biggest hurdle that I have faced during my first year in business is building a clientele in my geographic region. House of Colour has completely taken off in other parts of the country, and I so badly want to put Michigan on the House of Colour map!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
We all want to be perceived in our own unique way. And that’s exactly what we want to do when we’re talking about your own personal style too!
In order to dress you in your very best, I need to know three different things:
1. Your Coloring
2. Your Body Architecture
3. Your Personality
Your Coloring:
House of Colour’s system is incredibly unique because it’s all based on the undertones of our skin. Other systems in the past have used things such as eye color and hair color to determine a person’s season, but the problem with that is, if you changed your hair color, it very well meant your season could change too.
Every single one of us has outertones that make up our skin color, but we’re not interested in that. We want to know what’s going on underneath the surface. So, we use a fabric draping process and natural light to tell us what’s going on under there. We’re looking to see if you are blue-based or yellow-based and if you need clear and bright colors or something softer and more blended.
The ONLY color that works in every season’s palette is True Red – because it has neither blue or yellow undertones. Every other color in the world will fall into one of our four seasons – bright and warm, blended and warm, bright and cool, blended and cool.
This process tells us not only what color clothing you should be wearing but what color jewelry and makeup too! Have you ever bought a lipstick that you loved the color in the package but hated it on? Chances are, it wasn’t your season.
Your Body Architecture:
Our Style Analysis process doesn’t look at the colors you’re wearing, but it DOES look at clothing styles. Ever see something on someone else or in a picture on Amazon and order it because it’s so great on them only to realize it’s not so great on you? So much of this has to do with our body architecture. Each and every one of us is made up of shapes – some are more angular, and some are more rounded. But we’re all just shapes. So, we need to know which shapes you are to know what’s going to work best on you.
If you had a rectangular table at your home, and you put a round tablecloth on it, chances are, it’s going to look silly. But we’d never get mad at the table for not wearing the tablecloth well, right? We’d just say, oh, this isn’t the right tablecloth for this shape. And that’s what I want you to do with your body too. I don’t want you to get mad or frustrated if the clothes don’t look right. Chances are, it’s just not the right tablecloth for you.
Personality:
The third item we need to take into account is your personality because this is just as important as dressing your shape. Back to our rectangular table example – your personality is like a tablescape. Some of you would want to use really elegant China cloth napkins, elaborate candles, and décor. And others of you might have a more eclectic style with mismatched pieces of pottery you’ve picked up at various locations. Those details MATTER to dress authentically like you.
It’s like magic. Color Magic. When we tie these three things all together – TA-DA! You’ve got a wardrobe that not only all goes together, but it feels authentically like you!
Can you see how knowing your colors and style can change your life too?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve had the opportunity to serve almost 100 clients in the state of Michigan. Each and every client that books with me holds a special place in my heart. We all share a special bond as I get the honor of watching these women go from their most vulnerable state when they arrive at their appointment (I ask you not to where makeup so we can see how the drapes counteract with your undertones) until they walk out of my studio looking and feeling their best selves. It really is a full circle moment, and I am so grateful for each and every client that walks into my color studio.
