Today we’d like to introduce you to Keri Burns.
Hi Keri, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 2001, never actually realizing that it could lead me to owning my own business someday. When my husband Jerry and I started our family in 2004, I searched for something that could allow me to contribute in a meaningful way, while also having the flexibility I felt I needed to raise young children. In 2005, I began working in the Cosmetology Industry as a Licensed Manicurist. After several years in the business, I decided to also earn a license as an Esthetician. After practicing as a service provider for 16 years and two children who are off to college soon, we took a leap of faith and purchased a unique salon & day spa with full liquor license (two businesses in one). Although we had lived and worked in Midland for all of those years, this opportunity brought me back to my roots in Genessee County. In the last two years, we have worked with an incredible staff of 25 in developing our vision for this business. We are so fortunate to be part of such a lovely community, and we look forward to many more years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many challenges along the way. To be honest, if someone would have told me everything I would face, I may not have taken the leap! I am so grateful that I did, as challenges are what lead to growth. Post-pandemic economy and employment have been some of the biggest hurdles. I have a wonderful staff who share our vision. I couldn’t do it without each and every one of them. I am never alone in the struggle; we push through as a team.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a Salon & Day Spa with a full liquor license, beer garden, and boutique. We are located in a historic building in the heart of downtown Linden. We offer services from hair, nails, and lashes to skincare, massage, and body treatments. Our staff is passionate about providing quality service in a warm and friendly environment, and we are known for our talented professionals, outstanding professional product lines, and clean environment. With our 10 pedicure stations, 7 spa treatment rooms, and 2 couples suites, we love serving parties and hosting events. Last but not least, our guests love that we have a bar and beer garden right on site! The area’s only “Wine Spa and Day Bar,” The Waiting Room, is open any time the spa is open. No need for an appointment at the spa to come in and enjoy a cocktail.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I am passionate about developing successful professionals and leaders in the Cosmetology industry and beyond. I am equally as passionate about partnering with other business owners within our industry. It is so important that we continue to find ways that we can work together and support one another in order for each of us to prosper and achieve our goals.
