Rising Stars: Meet Nick James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick James.  

Hi Nick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was first introduced to the magic of music in the third grade when I stumbled upon an old Louis Armstrong record. As soon as I heard the sweet sound of the trumpet, I was hooked and knew I had to learn to play it myself. However, as I progressed through upper elementary school, my fascination shifted to the guitar. With just three chords taught to me by my father, G, C, and D, I soon discovered a whole new world of musical possibilities. I started writing and learning hundreds of songs and eventually found myself playing in numerous bands throughout high school and college. 

But it wasn’t until the birth of my first child that my passion for music began to take on a new meaning. As a new teacher, my family was in need of extra income, and my mother-in-law suggested I reach out to a local booking agency to play at bars around town. With each gig, I received increasingly positive feedback, and before I knew it, I was booked every weekend and able to provide for my loved ones in a more substantial way. 

Nowadays, I relish the balance between my career as an educator during the week and my weekend gigs as a musician. The joy I find in both pursuits is immeasurable, and I feel grateful to be able to share my passion for music with others on a regular basis. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a musician, teacher, and parent to four children, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges in juggling these various responsibilities. Perhaps the most difficult obstacle I’ve encountered is finding a way to strike a healthy balance between them all. With so many demands on my time and energy, it can be a real struggle to ensure that each aspect of my life receives the attention it deserves. 

Thankfully, I’m incredibly lucky to have a devoted partner in my wife, Ally. Without her unwavering support and willingness to take on the lion’s share of household responsibilities when I’m performing at night, I simply wouldn’t be able to pursue my passion for music to the extent that I do. I’m constantly amazed by her strength, resilience, and unflagging commitment to our family, and I’m grateful every day for everything she does to make it all possible. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an acoustic guitarist and soulful vocalist, I specialize in providing memorable musical experiences for a wide variety of occasions. Whether it’s a private event, wedding, corporate gathering, or restaurant performance, I strive to deliver top-notch entertainment that leaves a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. 

One of the things I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve been able to turn my lifelong passion for music into a thriving career. As the old adage goes, “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life,” and I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to earn a living doing something that brings me so much joy. By combining my love of teaching art and playing music, I’ve found a wonderful way to provide for my family while doing what I truly love. 

But what really sets me apart from others is the sheer energy and passion I bring to every performance. Whether I’m playing for an intimate gathering of two or a crowd of 2,000, I give 100% of myself to every single note and every single word. For me, there’s simply no greater thrill than connecting with an audience through the power of music, and I pour my heart and soul into every song I play. 

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely! I’m an avid follower of a YouTuber named Joseph Rodrigues, who delves into the transformative power of manifestation. His channel features engaging synopses of classic spiritual and self-help books, and I’ve found his insights to be incredibly helpful in many areas of my life. 

In fact, since discovering Joseph’s channel, I’ve been able to make significant strides in improving my marriage, as well as my overall mental and physical well-being. Additionally, I’ve seen a marked improvement in my finances and professional goals, thanks in part to the valuable guidance and inspiration I’ve gleaned from his teachings. I’m deeply grateful for the impact Joseph has had on my life, and I look forward to continuing to learn from his wisdom and experience.
