Today we’d like to introduce you to Clint Kyro.
Hi Clint, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
How I got started, and how did I get to where I am today… let’s see. OK, so I’ve been a drummer all my life, and from ages 14 to around 35, I was in all original bands. I moved to LA when I was 27, trying to get signed to a record deal, but after doing a few showcases and playing in Hollywood and San Francisco, I got my girlfriend pregnant on a surprise Valentine’s Day trip to Alabama in 2002. After my son was born, I moved to Birmingham, Alabama, and jammed in a cover band there. I still didn’t really consider cover bands to be ‘real bands’ until I came across a band called The Velcro Pygmies. My friend and former bandmate became the bassist for the Pygmies, and when I was in Green Bay, WI, I saw his face (along with the Velcro Pygmies) on the cover of a local magazine. I called him, and he told me how they play all over the country, making thousands per show. It blew my mind, and ever since then, I’ve been jamming in cover bands.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always struggles, but I’ve learned that you replace members and keep going.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve got a bachelor’s in psychology, and I’ve worked with mentally ill populations as well as youth corrections and developmentally delayed individuals in the past. I’ve also done social work and social media management. For a short time, I was a corrections officer for the state of Michigan.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I love sad, sappy music, and I’m a big Sarah McLachlan fan.
