Today we’d like to introduce you to Samyah Hairston.
Samyah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hey hey, my name is Samyah Hairston. I am a Real Estate Agent and Marketing Coordinator. Since I was a teen, my goal was to be a businesswoman in a career where I could wear a pantsuit, lol. In high school, I discovered marketing as a passion of mine. During freshman year, I took a marketing course, and from there, I went on to take the course until my senior year. So, it was a no-brainer what my college major would be…Business Marketing. Even before marketing, I have always had an interest in real estate. My dad is quite the handyman and watching him turn an unlivable home into an updated abode was inspiring. It fueled my urge to be a part of helping people acquire homes and invest in their futures as well as inspired me to acquire property myself. Since before I could remember I always wanted to get my college degree, so I went on to go to Arizona State University and graduated in 2022 with a B.S. in Business Marketing. Graduation was in May 2022 and by August 2022 I had received my Michigan Real Estate License while working a full-time marketing project manager role at a major company. Less than a year after college graduation, I am selling homes in Detroit and looking to get my RE license in another state.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Things have not been easy at all, but “If you keep a rock from pressure, you keep it from becoming a diamond”. From moving around throughout my childhood to moving from Detroit to Phoenix, Az a week before freshman year of high school started, I have always had to quickly adapt to change. Always being the new girl and having to make the most out of various situations, the unknown of my future kept me going. Even when I doubted myself there was always an inkling of faith that kept me pushing on. Heading into college, I had no idea how I would be able to afford to attend Arizona State University until my counselor told me about a scholarship I qualified for. Just knowing I qualified for a scholarship that would pay 100% of my tuition was my confirmation that God will always make a way. I soon learned that what is meant for me is mine, and I just have to show up to receive it. College years were a bit rough, but I think we all at some point experience the broke college student life so I will leave that there. Just being at college kept me inspired, graduating was something I knew I had to do. It was “my way out.” I just knew that I wanted to learn more, experience more, and be more. And that’s what I did. God did.

I am a realtor, which means I am my own small business. Though new to the industry I am already working on multiple transactions and looking to make investments. Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family, my parents, and my sisters have always supported and encouraged me. My dad has always encouraged me to jump into real estate, and he recently showed his support to the max as he was my first client allowing me to sell his home. Most of all, God has kept me up and kept me going, I am excited to experience what more he has in store for me.
