Daily Inspiration: Meet Lex Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lex Moore.

Hi Lex, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I used to be a teacher. I was unhappy with the lack of creativity I felt in my job and knew I was destined for more. So, I decided to take a friend’s recommendation and apply for a photography and videography short-term position located in rural Indonesia. Despite my lack of experience with a camera, I got in. I put in my two weeks at work the same day. My mentor through the program, taught me how to edit photos and videos, and I turned my teaching Instagram into what it is today—travel.with.moore. I saw and did so many things, and I’m so thankful for photography and videography for keeping the memories and emotions alive. When I came back to the states, I decided to photograph some friends in Detroit. During one photo shoot in particular, people came up to me asking me to photograph them too. That was the moment I knew that my travel photography and videography doesn’t just have to apply abroad—I capture real emotions and moments anywhere. Because of this, I’m continuing with photography and travel but maintaining my focus on videography as well with the opportunity of film school next year.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. My camera broke in Japan before I came back to Michigan, so I had to go on Facebook marketplace for a replacement. On top of that, getting marketing and promotion has been a bit expensive.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a travel photographer and videographer known for my travel Instagram. I am most proud of a reel I made in Indonesia that reached over 700 thousand people, but I’m also proud of the growth my photography and videography has made in the past few months. What sets me apart from others is that I have a distinct editing style and I like to work with my clientele so they get everything they want out of a session, and both of our visions are encapsulated in the work

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned along the way was to trust yourself and take a leap. Three months ago,, I was a high school teacher, now I’m a world traveler and a photographer/videographer/creator. Dreams do come true; never settle for less.
