Conversations with Bridget McCloskey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget McCloskey.

Hi Bridget, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hello, my friends! My name is Bridget McCloskey. I’m honored to share my story with Voyage Magazine. I am a Certified Meditation Teacher and Sound Healing Practitioner. I love what I do, but growing up, I never imagined this would be my career. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at the age of 15. While it’s hereditary, Crohn’s manifests itself in people who suffer from chronic stress and anxiety. I didn’t know it at the time, but looking back, I was in a constant state of fight or flight. As a young woman, I felt the pressure of society to live up to unrealistic expectations; I lacked self-worth and confidence but was and still am very empathic. I always worried about what people thought of me, what they said about me, and what would happen if I said “no” to a plan. It was crippling and made me very physically ill. I was put on Remicade, an I.V. infusion I received every six weeks for five years. I stopped responding to the treatment in year five and was eventually put on Humira. At this point, Ias 23 years old and living in Seattle, Washington, by myself. I went out there to pursue my dream of being an actress – a plan quickly put on hold when Humira gave me psoriasis instead of treating my Crohn’s. I lost all the hair on the crown of my head; I was pulling it out in clumps with the root and scalp still attached. It also attacked the bottoms of my feet, making it impossible to walk without standing on my tip toes, or else my skin would rip open. At its worst, I could raise my eyebrows, and blood would fall down my face from my scalp cracking open. It was traumatic, to say the least. However, it’s from this experience I became who I am today. Since I couldn’t walk, I spent a lot of time meditating. A practice I was familiar with because I had always been a spiritual person. Even as a child, my connection to Source has always been strong, so it was no surprise to my family when I told them I wanted to pursue a spiritual path. I knew acting wasn’t what my heart really longed for; it was to be a gateway or a bridge for others to connect with themselves and experience the benefits of stillness. By this time, I knew firsthand the benefits of meditation because I had just spent a year alone meditating, and in that year, I experienced a divine transformation. I cultivated self-love, self-awareness, and self-confidence and even healed myself of Crohn’s Disease. That’s right; I stopped all medication through a consistent meditation practice, acupuncture, and therapy. It’s been six years, and I’m the healthiest and happiest I’ve ever been.

I received my Master of Wisdom and Meditation Teacher Certification through the davidji Meditation Academy in 2019 and have since served as a bridge for others.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road could have been smoother, but the view along the way has been incredible. Even at my lowest points, I smiled because I knew the best was yet to come. Beyond the physical struggles I faced, I also had some emotional ones. I experienced a “me too” moment when I was young and didn’t process it until years later. Through therapy, I could accept, forgive, let go and heal, while meditation gave me the self-worth I lacked. As a Teacher, I struggled to share myself authentically at first. I was meeting with clients much older than me, and I remember someone saying, “how would you know? You’ve only been alive for 26 years!” It took me some time to feel confident in the material and share my story. I believe everything happens for a reason, and without my struggles, I would not have the wisdom I do today. Because of those bumps in the road, I’m here now, and that’s something to be grateful for.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I Guide and Coach others to live a more loving, joyful, and harmonious life through various techniques. I specialize in Meditation, Mindfulness, and Sound Healing.

My favorite class to offer is a Chakra Healing Sound Bath Meditation. Using chakra-tuned crystal sound bowls, I guide you through each energy center to clear stagnation. At the same time, the vibrations recalibrate the nervous system and offer a sense of peace and relaxation.

I am proud of my meditations and love guiding others to a place of stillness and self-connection. My goal is to introduce you to your Highest Self. I help you cultivate self-love and awareness that transforms how you experience the world. Meditation is lovely because it benefits not only on a physical level but a mental one as well! Meditation is for everyone, even those who say they can’t sit still. My approach to meditation is based on comfort, ease, and consistency.

Beyond classes and events, I also host parties, corporate meditations, and private sessions.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Besides spending time with my family, my favorite childhood memory has to be when I would climb my neighbor’s tree to eat snacks and write. I would bring two skateboards that sat between the branches. I used one to sit on and the other as my table. I vividly remember looking out at my neighborhood with curiosity and wonder. I would write about how the different perspectives made me feel. The tree gave me peace, and the view allowed me to dream. That is until my neighbor eventually asked me to stop because every time they looked out their window, they saw my legs dangling from their tree, and looking back, it was probably not the safest thing to do.
