Meet Scott Breakiron of Breakiron Pressure Washing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Breakiron.

Hi Scott, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My wife and I recently had a daughter in the end of 2021. My wife and I had just bought our first house earlier that year, and things were falling into place. We both had stable full-time jobs and were so happy to start our family. We couldn’t find any daycare for our daughter, and with our jobs scheduling, this was a problem. I decided to lay my cards on the table and start my own business using the skills I spent my 20s perfecting. It was time to put those skills to use for my family.

My business (Breakiron pressure washing) is simple but also very nitch. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people in my previous jobs. I’m people person you could say. I never really considered myself a salesperson, rather I have the know-how and experience to be able to provide a top notch service to my customers. I like to think of it as a win-win situation. I started off doing jobs for people I knew networking within the past. Fortunately, my business started off pretty well and with the quality work, I provided more and more jobs kept coming in. Word of mouth was keeping me busy and the food on the table.

I had a similar experience while working for other companies in the past. I’ve been fortunate to enjoy what I do and find joy in excelling at it. Whether it was building decks, relocating people, or washing houses. All jobs I did in my 20’s.

My business is for now a three-season business. It’s not impossible to wash in the winter, but work slows down. To offset my slow season, I worked at Costco seasonally, salt for a snow plowing company, help moving people, and snow blow driveways when the snow comes. Whatever I can do really to keep money coming in until spring comes and business picks up again.

It was scary jumping into running my own business since I had only ever worked for other companies before. When we had our daughter something in me snapped into overdrive and I knew it was time to put all my experience to work for the better of my family. Although I work more than I did with a conventional job, I’ve been able to carve out time to experience all the wonderful things in life, family, friends, and hobbies. I’m excited to see what the future brings but blissfully living in the present, soaking up what life throws my way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t necessary a smooth road but I don’t mind the bumps and ruts I’ve had to climb out of. I believe when you take the road less traveled, you’re able to look at things a little different. Going into business for myself was scary in the fact I hadn’t taken the risk before, but exhilarating knowing what I put into it I also gain back.

As you know, we’re big fans of Breakiron Pressure Washing LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I clean residential houses, refurbish decks, and clean commercial buildings. I most proud of being able to provide a quality service to my customers. What sets me apart from others is I’m outgoing, determined, and knowledgeable about what I do. My experiences in life have been leading up to this moment and I’m all in.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m also a musician. I grew up playing guitar and love to perform. I play lead guitar and harmonica in the band Jury Folk. We have some music on Spotify and play at local venues in Grand rapids.
