Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Lasley.
Hi Victoria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We are Sugar Honey, best known by our micro macaron business popping up in Metro Detroit in our converted horse trailer! Sugar Honey started in late 2019 after COVID impacted the chef workforce in my area. I wanted to make an impact on my community and bring people back together after being apart from those we love for so long. So here we are – popping up at small businesses, local festivals, and independent events in the Metro Detroit area with high-quality, hand-piped macarons.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a small business is wildly difficult, fun, fulfilling, and suspenseful. Of course, there have been struggles. It would be unrealistic to expect it to go flawlessly. But man, there have been really wonderful accomplishments as well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think I have been really lucky as a Pastry Chef in Metro Detroit to have worked with really impactful chefs who specialize in niche talents. I’ve had the privilege of growing my education alongside them and being able to take all of their content and bring it into my own work. Common factor of all the creators I have found most impactful to my education is how interested they are to share high-quality, locally sourced, small-business ingredients with their customers. I hope to carry the same impact to Sugar Honey customers. Sugar Honey consciously sources ingredients, packaging materials, attire, and marketing materials. I’ll preach it every day – Support Small Businesses In Your Community!
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Most important lesson I’ve learned this far in my journey is to remind myself why I started Sugar Honey in the first place – to be more impactful with my intentions as a consumer and creator and to be a present member to the lives of the ones I love! It is very easy to fall into the toxic workforce mentality. It is important to remember life goes by quickly, so it is vital to find balance.
