Conversations with Lucas Galganski

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Galganski.

Hi Lucas, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey started in the summer of 2021 when I decided to download TikTok and see what this app was all about. After seeing the type of content that was popular on the app, I decided to make a video of my own. I made a video of life in your 30s with the Full House music. My goal was to introduce life in your 30s like they do in the intro of full house. Overnight it hit 1 million views, and over the course of a few days hit almost 3 million views. I knew after this that I could be successful on this app.

After doing a few more of these types of videos, I knew that this was not something I wanted to do long term and knew I needed to make a change of content to something I enjoyed talking about and had a passion for. I recently became a father during 2020, so I decided to make “Dad” content, and although I did have some success on this topic, I felt I was in a very competitive niche and didn’t offer a lot of valuable content in that area. I thought it over for many days of what is something I know a lot about and enjoy talking about. Eventually, it boiled down to 2 things. I’ve been teaching for 10 years, and I love Michigan. I decided to make funny unique content about Michigan while teaching others about Michigan at the same time. I went out in the garage on my whiteboard that day and made a video about “What people in Michigan say,” and it was an absolute hit. I gained over 50k + thousand followers in the matter days and over 1 million views from that video. All my videos now are intended to be about Michigan and typically bring a laugh to my audience about everything Michigan has to offer like our crazy weather, our love for Vernors and Faygo, and everything else in between! Now being 2023, I have gained 250K followers and could not be more grateful for the support I have received from my followers and am so happy that people can relate to my content.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
That is a great question. It is very easy to look at content creators and think that becoming popular on social media is luck. To a certain extent, I do agree there some luck involved in terms of getting discovered and your content reaching the right audience. With that being said, the majority of making content is a lot of hard work that goes unnoticed. When making content about Michigan, the challenge I face is how can I make my content unique, resonate with my audience, and provide value to my audience. One of the challenges I face as a content creator is trying to provide as much value in each video as possible. I’m always trying to think of ways that I can present my content differently to reach a different audience constantly, which can be difficult as well.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work as a 7th-grade Science Teacher in Rockford MI and have been teaching for 10 years now. I love teaching and making a difference in the lives of students. I’m most proud of my students I’ve had over the years that have continued to take their knowledge and make a difference in the lives of others. I wouldn’t say there is anything that sets me apart from other teachers where I work. I will say that if there is anything I try to focus on every day, it is trying to make a difference with at least one student every day. Whether that is finding out more about their passions and encouraging them to pursue it or teaching someone how a thunderstorm forms. It’s all about trying to make a difference every day.

As for my content creation, it is a journey that I would love to see where it goes. It is something I enjoy doing, and I have been able to meet so many great people along the way. I’m most proud of how I have been able to make an impact in the community and meet so many great people in Michigan. I think the most important thing that separates me from others is my charisma, kindness, humbleness, and genuine love for this great state of ours.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that hard work in something you are passionate about can go a long way in making a difference in the world. I will never say that this journey has been easy, but I think what makes the journey so special is the grind it takes. I love the feeling of pursuing something every day and the highs and lows that come with it.
