Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Feimster Jr.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Wow! Uhmmm… I started in church as a boy growing up involved in everything you can imagine. Worked my way through drums, singing in the choir, and eventually piano and organ. It’s a super long story but to say the least, I went to college for music came out and began composing my own songs, and started my band. The name Feimstro came about when in college. I did EVERYTHING under the sun. Jazz, Classical, Choir, and conducted orchestra. Friends called me maestro, so I put feimster (my last name) and maestro together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been and continues to be rough sometime. My health was a struggle. In 2013 I began to have seizures out of nowhere!!! So, I’d say my health and the lack of reading music ability during school. I didn’t read music until college. Of course, you experience rejection of gig opportunities, lack of help, etc. but im super thankful for all of the experiences good and bad.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a musician, composer, and educator. I’m known for playing organ at the comma bookstore as of ate, putting together an event every fourth Friday entitled ” The Feimstro Show.” I believe originality and authenticity sets me apart from others.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes! Continue to create. No matter what. During COVID I released my first EP. I used a bad experience for good.
So, I learned to be consistent no matter what and learn to find the good in all situations.
