Edit Values Meet Angela Jennings of Guided Touch Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Jennings.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was in my early 20s I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I had just had my first-born daughter and was working at a friend of the family’s hair salon. I was his assistant at his private salon in Ferndale MI. I would schedule his appointments, do the laundry, clean the shop, shampoo, and prep the client’s hair for him to style. It was an easy job and it provided for my daughter and myself at the time but I knew there was more. After being there for a couple of years clients would rave about how good I would massage their scalp while washing their hair. Then, one of the regular clients that was around my age brought up me going to massage school. I brushed her off and told her I wouldn’t have time being a single mom and working full time. Her exact words to me were, ” Angela you can’t do this forever you got a kid looking up to you. She was right. Soon after I would see multiple signs about being a massage therapist. A friend of my mother’s from church brought up to me Irene’s Myomassology Institute being a great school to become a massage therapist. I did my research, called the school, and went on a tour. I enrolled in the September 2009 class and graduated in September 2010. As of today, I have been a massage therapist for 13 years. I started out working in spa settings, to chiropractic, and even one of the casinos in Downtown Detroit. Now I own a business called Guided Touch LLC. where I do In-home massages as well in-office and chair massage events. I also work for a company doing medical massage for clients that have been injured in car accidents. I couldn’t be happier with the career path I’ve chosen.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it was not a smooth road at the beginning. Starting off in this field can be rough because I didn’t truly know where I wanted to be in my massage journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of Guided Touch Massage LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I travel to clients’ home and offer table massage. I specialize in Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Hot Stone therapy. I also offer chair massage for in-office and off-site events.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I am so blessed with the people that I have in my life that have helped me with this journey. Starting with my daughters Destiney and Jailynn. I go hard every day for them. I know they are watching mommy and I want to make them proud. My other half Jarante who has been by my side for years listening to my worries about my career and telling me that I can do anything I want with my massage journey. My mom Ellie and my siblings Ronda, Anthony, and Precious having my back through it all and letting me know how proud they are of me through the years. And my good friend Michelle Mikha. We went to massage school together and have always kept in touch over the years. It was her who pushed me to really focus on my business Guided Touch.
