Hidden Gems: Meet Kamry Steger of Steger Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamry Steger. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hidden In Plain Sight-Michigan (H.I.P.S.) was originally founded in 2018 when my daughter, Aaliyah, was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy at the age of 1. In the midst of our journey, I recognized the lack of resources available to us when it came to searching for the right therapists, schools, health care, etc. 

With the strength and time, we put into our little ones, no one should have to bear the stress in accessing resources for the betterment of our children. That is what birthed “H.I.P.S”. 

I wanted to create a safe space for families of impaired youth to obtain any resource they may need to not only ensure their child is executing to their fullest potential, but as guardians, we have somewhere to feel seen and heard as well. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The process of creating H.I.P.S. Was nothing less than challenging. Over One billion people, 15% of the world’s population, experience some form of disability. Keeping that in mind, while new disabilities are being discovered daily, I knew from the beginning that it was going to be a task covering as much ground as possible. 

Factoring the time and research it took to gather, and still continuously gathering information, with the mental challenges I had to face raising a child with Cerebral Palsy, I was met with plenty of obstacles along the way. 

However, I knew that my purpose was going to be far more rewarding than the pain I had faced.

Any big plans?
With H.I.P.S. Specifically, the next step is to incorporate the resources we’ve obtained and use them to scale into an inclusive facility for the children to have a space where the can move freely and safely. This facility will include inclusive indoor and outdoor play areas, and a gym where children can build their strength with the aid of physical therapists and muscle specialists. The goal is to not only service children in Michigan but to take our mission global and ensure that if anyone in the world is facing the challenges we faced, they can contact us and be welcomed by a team of specialists to get them the assistance they need.
