Hi GoldynGambit, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Since a child, I have always loved music. I’ve always been passionate about not only listening it but creating it as well. Although I love almost all genres my personal favorite has always been hard rock. I’ve been recording music for over 16 years, with the past year being my most impactful year. I’m currently booking my own shows regularly all over Michigan area at Different venues such as sanctuary, diesel, Pj Lagers, Token lounge to name a few. I also put together my own lineups of artist and bands to perform with while pushing my movement of “keeping local live music alive” I feel like the year 2022 was the best year for my music career ever, with also going on impactful podcasts such as Kid L and the legal aliens. Constantly gaining momentum and just networking with different local entrepreneurs. I connect with the community beyond just my music. Engaging and showing people it’s okay to be true to themselves and unafraid to pursue their dreams. Which is another reason why when I perform, I wear the goth black lipstick and black tears painted on my face. I’m an advocate for the alternative style, just being a rebel having fun, living with no regrets.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road; I’ve done shows with less than 10 people in a crowd and times where I felt ready to just quit. I’ve gotten negative feedback for the gothic look and dark music sound that doesn’t resonate with everyone. I’ve had moments where I had writers’ block for years and I had felt uninspired. Times where I doubted myself and gave up on my passion. Mental health struggle has always played a part of an obstacle in my path. There have been times where I felt I was wasting lots of time and money on my dream, and I felt no one supported me and my dream was not worth pursuing
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a solo artist (GoldynGambit) but sometimes I perform with a band behind me. My music has sounds of hybrid punk & horror core. I specialize in creating music that can be explosive and beautifully dark that speaks to lonely broken souls. I’m known for organizing music showcases with different artist bands all genres to keep the local live music scene alive. My brand is associated with dark scary often associated with gothic style, due to when I perform my music, I wear black lipstick and black tears under black sunglasses. I’m most proud of creating this image/symbol that is deep inside of me and being able to show it to the world. What sets me apart from others is that everything I do is based on my life and my experiences. My intentions are genuine, and my message is clear to be yourself and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Music saved me when I was at my lowest point in life, and I want to do the same for others. Mental health is very important.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Humbleness, empathy being able to network with everyone. Building great relationships with other people with similar goals I feel is crucial to my success. Also, consistency plays a big part too
