Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Bahena.
Hi Alex, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I’ve always enjoyed creating. I’ve dabbled in a wide range of mediums. When I was a child, I enjoyed drawing and painting. Switched to working with clay for a little while. Eventually, digital artwork with procreate. But in the end, photography was the one I connected with the most. Capturing the world through a new perspective. Going in for a low angle to view the world like a worm or as high as an eagle. I can spend hours shooting everything. I want to give the ordinary a chance to shine and be the star.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There is a lot of self-doubts when starting. I felt hesitant to share my work, which I was proud of, but was nervous to hear criticism. It is natural to fear criticism, as it can be difficult to hear negative feedback about our work or ideas. However, criticism is an essential part of personal and professional growth. It helps us identify areas for improvement and guides us towards becoming better versions of ourselves. Without it, we may continue to make the same mistakes and miss out on opportunities for development. It’s important to remind ourselves that criticism is not a reflection of our worth as a person but rather a way to help us improve. Learning to handle and learn from criticism takes time and practice but ultimately makes us stronger and more capable individuals.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer who enjoys using darker tones and unique angles. The darker tones in my photos give them a moody and evocative feel that sets them apart from the typical bright and airy images often seen in photography. My use of unique angles also adds a layer of intrigue and visual interest to my work. These angles can create a sense of movement and dynamic composition in my photos, drawing the viewer’s eye in and holding their attention. Whether shooting landscapes or portraits, I like to find new and unexpected perspectives to showcase my subjects. These elements combined give my photos a distinct look.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Often you will be your biggest critic, which will stop you from progressing. The faster you get out of your head, the faster you can start reaching new levels. Don’t be afraid to share your work, it will never be perfect, but it doesn’t have to be. It just has to be something you enjoyed creating. The artist who creates a piece once a week will improve faster than the one who only makes a piece once a month. Don’t fixate on perfection when you could be gaining experience by working on more.
