Rising Stars: Meet Porsche Miles Grant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsche Miles Grant.

Hi Porsche, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Porsche Miles Grant aka Judge Miles. I am a professional comedian and the CEO and owner or Girls Gone Fit LLC & Financial Success Services LLC. I am a Detroit native that grew up in the Martin Luther King apartments (King Homes). I graduated from Bates Academy, Cass Tech, Michigan State and Northwood University. I was blessed enough to work hard and earn my master’s degree before the age of 30. My dream was to always become a Judge. I never ever wanted to become anything else. However, while going through school, I absolutely had no help financially. Therefore, once I graduated from MSU, I used the resources that I had to purchase study materials for the LSAT. I studied, studied, studied, because I wanted to get into law school, but life took a turn. I took the LSAT and was 12 points away from getting into law school. This was devastating in every sense of the word. I was very sad, but I was determined not to give up on life and my passion to help society.

I had to find a way to get my spirits back up. In the summer of 2011, I enrolled into Lansing Community College Post Bachelors Paralegal program which was ABA (American Bar Association) accredited. I 4.0 the entire program and earned my paralegal certification. This gave me back my confidence and I knew that I could be a great lawyer, but it solidified I had difficulties with test that were time sensitive. I said to myself, “Maybe God has something different for now, you can always come back to law.”

From there, my professional life took off and I started to work in politics. I worked for the Lansing Mayor’s Office, the Michigan House of Representatives as a Legislative assistance, a financial institution as a Community Engagement Director, and currently I am a Communication Lead at a manufacturing facility in Detroit Mi. However, while working these jobs, I yearned for more. As a result, in 2016 I officially became an entrepreneur of two businesses. Girls Gone Fit LLC and Financial Success Services LLC. I decided to give back to my community and focus on the most important aspects of life that we often have trouble in, that was finances and fitness.

The African American community is disproportionally suffering economically and physically as we are in the lead for heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. I understand this struggle as I am no stranger to obesity. In 2008 I was 250 pounds at 5’3. Even though, I have never had any health issues, I knew that being that big was unhealthy. So, I did something about it. I started to work out and change my eating habits. In one year, I lost 92 pounds and kept it off. This mission was personal. Subsequently, I took matters in my own hands and began fitness dance classes at the Westside YMCA of Lansing. My classes were booked and busy. I then transitioned from Lansing to Detroit at the Bam Studio and have been teaching fitness dance classes for over eight years. I then began to offer the community free financial seminars and the opportunity to gain financial freedom through consultation with my business (Financial Success Services).

Later in 2018 I added another important aspect to my calling, and that was laughter. Now, all my services fall under the umbrella of (The Miles Experience). My website(www.themilesexperience.com) offers fitness, financial freedom and funny. I am a one stop shop to building the community financially, physically, and emotionally.

Today, I am well known as Comedian Judge Miles. I started my professional comedy career in October of 2018 at Punchline Comedy Club in Southfield Mi. My entire life people have always said I was funny. I come from a very long lineage of funny people from my great-uncles, to my great-grandmother, to my father and mother.

I was known in middle and high school for being the funny girl who will roast you. My nickname was Big Popo (given by childhood friends Steve, Toine and Dada Washington) and Big Popo was the queen of roasting and shit talking. I went up against some of the best male roasters and often won. I even started my own roasting group called, “The Get Em Girls”. Growing up in the hood, this is all we did, roast each other. You had to be tough and ready at any moment to be put on blast, and you had to have a good comeback. Unfortunately for a lot of people, I mastered this skill and would strike with my jokes before they could ever get one out. Safe to say, I became a hood favorite when it came to capping. I was the girl who people loved to be around because I was full of jokes, energy, and excitement. If you were around me, you were going to be laughing. So, the transition to becoming a comedian was not a shocker for anyone. In fact, the consensus was “This is soo you”.

Funny thing is I’ve always thought about the idea of being a comedian, but didn’t know how to go about doing it. I used to throw comedy shows in my living room for my college friends. My comedy name at that time was Big Nose, a name I gave to myself for obvious reasons. LOL. But what really put things into perspective with me and my comedy career was the day I saw my college friend Chris Powell aka Comedian CP doing comedy at Punchline Comedy Club. I was on a date around June or July and we paid to see my college friend. I mean at this time he was a well-known comedian. I was watching Chris work in his purpose and saying to myself. “This is nuts, I know this guy and I use to make him laugh, now he’s a comedian. “I said shit I know that if he can do it, I can. This was no slight to CP because the man is talented, it was just a sign from God that I too have this gift and need to give it to the world.

I went back to my professional setting that Monday as a Financial Aid Assistant and was cracking my coworkers up. I mean I was on fire. I said to them, “I’m about to be a comedian”. They all laughed and said you should do it. I then reached out to Punchline owners and set it up. I’ll never forget, they had open mic on a Wednesday and at the time Heather J and Melanie Hearn were the host. I was so excited and overzealous that I made flyers and told everyone that I was going to do comedy that Wednesday. Wednesday came and I had literally sold the place out. It was standing room only and the club did not anticipate as many people as I brought. I rocked that place out and four years later, I am still what the people want.

Unlike many, my comedy style is a bit different than a lot of other people. I stand out as my comedy is Real, Raw and Raunchy. I speak about the real shit, the shit my generation is going through. I speak for The hood and share hood experiences that are often funny. I talk about the things people often find dirty or out of line and I love it. I love shocking people with my antics. I love not having to be a professional and a lady while on stage because I’m that all the time, especially in corporate America. On stage, I am The Judge, and my motto is ” When the Judge is in, the Verdict is out”. When you book The Judge, you get Detroit’s finest. I show up fine, sexy, energized and let’s not forget funny. It’s ironic because I’m educated beyond belief and a have professional roster that many would not imagine, but on the stage, I am a damn clown.

That’s the beauty of comedy, I am FREEEEEEEE, and I love being in this space!!!! Often, I have been told by other comics, that my style of comedy needs some fine tuning as they believe I should use less profanity and try to do clean comedy. However, that’s not what I choose for me. I have been using profanity since I was three years old, and I absolutely love all the words. I can do clean comedy if I want to, but I have decided my lane is my lane and it resides with the people who are rough around the edges. One thing I will never do is what others prescribe. I am a rebel, a leader, a trendsetter and I make the rules. I wear many hats and I am great at them all. If you know, you know. I am for women empowerment and one of my biggest sayings that I live by is “Confident Women Don’t Hate.”

I sell buttons and shirts with this saying and preach this message at every comedy event. I truly believe as women, we need to lift one another up and support. When you are a confident woman, you are so focused on your purpose and goals, you don’t have time to hate, and belittle another woman. Instead, you inspire and offer resources and compliments and unity. I am the woman that will tell you how fly you look, or give you my plug to whatever, because I understand that helping you does not mean it will hinder me. In fact, I enjoy helping others and knowing that what God has for me is for me. I truly believe that there are too many weirdos in the world that are jealous and envious and fail to prosper because of that weird energy.

Currently, I am the host of Poetry and Punchline at Punchline Comedy Club on Wednesday nights along with my cohost DJones. My actions, and my message has always been the same. I am passionate about helping the world, rather it is through laughter, or fitness or financial literacy. I am not a professional Judge, but I am still the Judge and I am giving the people what they need and want. The Verdict thus far is…the community loves me, and I love them back. I would like to take the time to thank all my supporters and friends. Most importantly I would like to thank those that have been in my corner supporting my comedy. Here is a special thanks to my mom (Rahjinah Johnson), dad (LaJuan Miles), my bestfriend Leah Jemison and Carlita Washington, my significant other Khayree Beckem, as well as all my comedy family that has given me an opportunity, advised and offered wisdom. (Mic Larry, Tony Roney, Ugly Jason, Melanie Hearn, Kesh the comedian, Roni Shanell, GirlBoy Peezy, Punchline Comedy Club and associates, Comedian Josiah, Comedian Cp, Michael Coylar, Simply Shanell, and Melvin Bender) God Bless.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When you are destined for greatness, the road is never smooth. It is bumpy, rocky, and hard. More specifically, being a newer comic in the city of Detroit is always challenging because it’s more competing than unity. It’s more hating than giving people their flowers, but that’s what makes it fun. I love being counted out because I love the feeling of still being successful in spite of. Every trial and obstacle I face, I conquer.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a solider for God. Therefore, in my everyday life, I always try to spread his love and message. I am always explaining the greatness of God and his grace. My greatest mission is to ensure that all of my loves ones know the Lord and have accepted him as their Lord and savior. This is vital, as I want everyone who I love to be blessed and end up in the Kingdom.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love to roller skate and travel to do so. I do not have any children and I love to dance.
