Meet Reyna Larson of Ray & Al’s

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reyna Larson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Reyna Larson and Alice Hoffmann opened Ray & Al’s in June of 2022. Prior to this venture, Reyna was the former chef and co-owner of the popular Nani’s Cafe in Union Pier. Alice was a special ed teacher in Chicago for the last 20 years, resigning after the pandemic with the goal of making a new life in southwest Michigan and opening a small cafe. Together they make Ray and Al at 118 N Cleveland in Galien, Mi.

We found a beautiful building in the sleepy town of Galien, MI. that had a lot of character and history, and were immediately drawn to it. Despite having few other existing businesses in town, we decided to take a leap of faith and purchase the building. As we began working on the space and getting to know people, we immediately fell in love with the community. The kindness and support the village showed us took us by surprise, and we knew we made the right decision in choosing Galien. Our goal was to open a lunch-focused restaurant that would serve the community as well as capture the audience of surrounding Harbor Country. In just six months the project has exceeded our expectations and we are excited to see how it evolves.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Although the building is quaint and steeped in the town’s history, the age and size of the building continue to be an obstacle as it leaves us with less seating and storage space that we would like

What matters most to you?
What matters most to us are the relationships we’ve made with our customers and that the restaurant not only provides great food and customer service but a big sense of community.
