Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Withers.
Hi Kate, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi! My name is Kate Withers, and I love to share my daily life, travels, and experiences on social media, @barkfluent, with my sidekick, a Westie named Whiskey! I created an Instagram account in February of 2018 to be a collection of all the dog photos I was taking of my new puppy, Whiskey. Little did I know that my collection of photos would amount to a mass following of people wanting to see more and be a part of our adventures in life! I started making friends from around the globe and began posting more and more. In 2020, our accounts took off. I joined TikTok and started getting into making silly videos of Whiskey and myself. I loved making and editing the videos for TikTok just as much as I love to post pictures on Instagram, so I started to do it more consistently and made it a part of my daily routine. I like to keep my content authentic and show the pros and cons of being a dog mom and owning a dog, specifically a Westie. Westies are notorious for being stubborn and independent! I have recently gotten more into traveling and creating content about our travels amongst our followers; I’ve even done several meetups across the USA with some of our followers. I genuinely love being a content creator! Today, we have amassed approximately 70,000 followers on all of our social platforms: Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, this adventure has been pretty smooth! There have been a few ups and downs, just like with anything you experience in life. One thing that I’ve experienced a few times is being burnt out on posting. Putting your day-to-day life out for the whole world to see can be very taxing. It took me a while to learn how to work around it. I eventually told myself that it is okay to feel this way, and sometimes you have to take a little break from posting all day, every day! I am fortunate enough to love what I do as my own little hobby, so posting every day and managing our social media accounts does not feel like a job to me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our account specializes in quirky dog mom and cute dog content! I love to do content catering towards Westies/Westie owners, but I also like to cater to just the life of an average dog owner. My favorite thing is finding other Westie owners through our posts and connecting over a similar trait both of our pups share. I am proud to say that I have consistently been a part of the content creator world for almost five years now. It may not seem like a big achievement to some, but to me, it means the world. I am also proud to say that Whiskey is featured on the dog water, Waggin’ Water, vending machine at a little dog beach in Chicago! That was such a cool experience to be a part of. Something that sets our account apart from others is that there is no method to the chaos. I don’t stick to one theme for our accounts. I usually take videos and pictures of what makes me happy, quirky and cute things Whiskey will do, travel posts, etc.! I like to think of our accounts as one big melting pot of various topics.

If you are thinking about becoming a content creator, do it! I have learned so much and made so many amazing friends from all over the world. I never thought my little random Instagram account would ever be like what it is today. Do not focus on how many followers, likes, and views you have! Instead, focus on creating posts and videos that make you happy. One big tip to remember when doing this is to be consistent.
