Today we’d like to introduce you to Mena Monroe.
Hi Mena, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m a writer, director, producer, & actress. I started in front of the camera as a video model. I’ve done music videos for both local artist & mainstream artists like Drake & Lil Wayne
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Omg no the complete opposite. There’s been so many hurdles in my search to find flow. From all the fake snakes & hate in the film community to having to deal with the male chauvinist behind the scene. It can be rather difficult to make my mark as a female independent filmmaker. Yet I continue to push on with the support of my many online supporters whom I adore & close family.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the go-to “It Girl” in Detroit’s indie film market. I won several awards for my first film 3 Keys, now streaming on Tubi. As well as the best actress award in the Detroit Choice awards 22. I’m currently about to drop my sophomore film “If I Can’t“ a domestic violence thriller with a message. This project is dear to me. Not just because I wrote, produced, & star in it, but because this could’ve been MY story to the tee, but God seen fit to make it otherwise & now, I want to spread it like a message to hopefully save someone else. What sets me apart from so many new faces in urban film is how authentic & relatable I am to my supporters. I’m simple a lil brown girl from the west side of Detroit that came from nothing, & worked my ass off to get EVERYTHING!
I’m most proud of my transition from worker to boss B! I seen what I wanted & I created a lane for myself, my family, & the 100-plus people I’ve employed through my film production company “Mena Monroe Studios”. Which is small & meager now but one day soon you guys will be interviewing me at my studio lot in between me taking calls from
Tyler Perry lol.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I would like to give my brother Shawn aka @storytalersink for believing in my dream of making our kind of film & being such a supportive business partner. My mother & family for all pitching in to be hands on my movie sets. I’m extremely passionate about film so I truly appreciate them for understanding that.

I enjoy her craft her work as an independent artist is remarkable . What I enjoy is watching her figure this thing called life out . Seeing her being hated on by certain people in this industry has really been interested i’ve always said everybody that laughs in your face is not true it’s not for you. Most of the people that are smiling your face or your enemies and your haters. As long as you remember that in life you will continue your journey . And once you can get it, then the demons start to pull you back. .
