Meet Heidi Richards-Woody of Obsidian Skin Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Richards-Woody. 

Hi Heidi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have been a nurse for nearly two decades and a nurse practitioner for more than half of that. I have always had a passion for empowering and helping people, but have also always had a love for the beauty industry.  The idea of making people feel confident and beautiful is incredibly fulfilling.   Years ago, I had dreamed of opening a medical spa, but just never felt quite brave enough. However, when my life took a sudden and rather traumatic turn in the spring of 2021, I was left struggling, lost, and unsure of my direction of my life.  It was then that my old dream resurfaced and thankfully, through the grace of God, some perseverance, and a lot of hard work Obsidian was born. One of the darkest times in my life turned into one of my greatest dreams and blessings.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish I could say it’s been an easy journey, but as I mentioned, a deep struggle is how I got here in the first place. But I am a firm believer that through struggle comes strength. And I now know that this is where I was meant to be.

My greatest challenge has been navigating the business side of it. I have always felt like I can learn anything in the medical field because I am confident being a Nurse Practitioner, but the business side is a whole new beast of its own! Luckily, I love a challenge and I am learning as I go.  I’ve also been grateful for some incredible mentors who have helped me along the way.

We’ve been impressed with Obsidian Skin Spa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Obsidian Skin Spa is a medical spa specializing in aesthetic injectables such a wrinkle relaxers (Botox and Dysport), dermal fillers (Restylane and Juvederm), and collagen stimulators (Sculptra). We also offer a wide variety of aesthetic services including Hydrafacial, microneedling, PRP, chemical peels, IV infusions, vitamin injections, and multiple medical-grade skincare lines. The word Obsidian means strength.  The Obsidian rock is thought to absorb negative vibes and toxicity while deepening a connection to positivity. It’s not just about Botox for me. It’s about creating genuine and earnest relationships with patients. My patients are not just patients to me. They are dear friends who have become like family. When you walk through the doors of Obsidian, you will find a gathering place of friends, a cozy spot of have a cup of coffee, and a place to find support when you need it the most!

What matters most to you? Why?
Relationships. This is why I became a nurse in the first place. I think empowering and helping mankind all boils down to making sure that person feels like they are important…like they matter…like they are worthy!  Sure, I love to help people get the best skin of their lives, but it’s more about creating the relationship that means the most to me! I love knowing everything about my patients…their jobs, their kids, their achievements, all if it! When you create real, authentic, and genuine relationships with people…the rest sort of just falls into place. Most days this doesn’t even feel like work to me!
