Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Kasha.
Hi Liz, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am an incredibly proud graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in Journalism and Public Relations. I have spent over 15 years of my career in the events, communications, and public relations sphere.
I have always had a passion for farmhouse and country-inspired events and décor, as well as a deep love for event planning and creative writing.
One day, while vacationing in Nashville years ago, I came across a t-shirt in a souvenir window that said, “Country as Cornbread” and the southern saying stuck with me. The idea of launching my own décor and events company had always vividly danced around in my mind, but somehow, the timing was never quite right until one magical moment.
When I returned home from that trip, I was hanging a string of twinkling Edison lights on my back porch when suddenly, and perhaps with a little help from my fairy Godmother (hey, they could exist) it came to me. What better way to describe my love for all things whimsical, twinkly, and topped with a southern twist than “Twinkle Lights and Cornbread.”
The next day, I purchased the domain name and set up my Instagram page and website.
Fast forward to today and Twinkle Lights and Cornbread is a full-service event company specializing in bringing enchanting events to life from the perfect backdrop to the charming centerpieces and of course the most whimsical sweet table – all sprinkled with some twinkle lights and cornbread crumbs along the way!
In addition to designing in-person events for my amazing clients in Michigan, I also create whimsical set-ups and link the various décor pieces I use to give fans of my creative work the ability to recreate some of my original designs!
Each of my designs embodies an enchanting, rustic wonderland theme and is accompanied with a fairytale story that creatively personifies each piece I use. I try to take viewers of my designs on a magical, storytelling journey through whimsical words.
I have also had the distinct honor of partnering with national retailers like Kirkland’s, The Christmas Tree Shops, and Old-World Christmas on brand sponsorships and my designs have been featured on their websites and social media pages. Many of my designs have also been featured in articles and on farmhouse inspiration pages and websites.
If you ask me my “why”, the answer is pretty simple. I take a tremendous amount of pride in designing picture-perfect event set-ups for my clients, the details mean everything to me. I have a profound appreciation for each piece I use in creating the designs, their character, and the story behind them. A bench can just be a bench. Flowers can just be flowers. Bells can just be bells. But when you take all of those elements and turn them into captivating characters with their own story to tell, you are able to draw people in and make them feel like they are part of the scene and story, looking up at the swaying flowers and the sparkling night sky, while watching the bells take their final bow. I want people to connect with my event designs on a deeper level and perhaps for a brief, but enchanting, moment in time, feel as if they are standing in the middle of their very own fairytale.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I launched my company at the end of 2018 before the pandemic hit. I spent the first few months really solidifying and promoting my brand and was blessed with a growing number of clients and referrals for in-person event set-ups. Once the pandemic was in full force, in-person events became almost non-existent. With any business, adaptability is key. I decided to use my Instagram platform to post enchanting designs (both home & seasonal) that I would set up in my house and link the various pieces I use on my website so that people could re-create the designs themselves without leaving their homes. It was a total hit! When I launched this additional digital medium of my business, it also paved the way for various brand sponsorships with some national retailers. I would definitely say it was the silver lining of COVID.
As you know, we’re big fans of Twinkle Lights & Cornbread. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Twinkle Lights and Cornbread specializes in creating dream events, from the perfect backdrop and balloon garlands, to the charming centerpieces and of course the most enchanting sweet tables (yes, we even provide matching sweets to theme) – all sprinkled with some twinkle lights and cornbread crumbs along the way! Every event we do, from engagements, proposals, bridal showers, birthdays, baptisms, and weddings, all have a theme and story to tell, and we tell that story through the intricate details. I truly think what sets us apart is that when someone looks at a Twinkle Lights & Cornbread set-up, they instantly feel like they are transported into a scene from a fairytale. Twinkling lights and handmade, enchanting décor are signatures of our set-ups.
How do you define success?
Success to me is defined as finding and sharing your happiness. It’s not about the money or recognition. It’s about waking up each day loving what you do and knowing that you are playing a part in some of the biggest moments in people’s lives. Seeing the smiles on my client’s faces when they walk in and see the set-ups come to life for their special events makes my heart skip a beat EVERY SINGLE TIME.
