Exploring Life & Business with Brendea Johnson of LAVISH28

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brendea Johnson.

Hi Brendea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I’ve always had a passion for hair since I was a child. I come from a family with naturally gifted hair stylist and barbers. It’s always been a dream of mine to be a professional hair stylist and salon owner. Unfortunately, life had different plans that I was unaware of. After a few unsuccessful attempts at trying to complete cosmetology, I found myself defeated. I decided to put my dream on hold and go into the corporate world. While I found myself working a traditional 9 to 5 I still kept a small clientele just to fulfill that desire I still had of doing hair.

Although I was climbing the corporate ladder, I was not happy and felt like I had no control over my schedule. I started feeling like I wanted to be my own boss and work my schedule the way I needed to for my family. I remember writing in my journal my goals and dreams. Stating that ‘ I wanted to have something that I could do with my family and someday pass down to my children. I want to set my schedule and manage my time’.

So, in Jan of 2022, I launched LAVISH28. My plan was to build my business AND work my 9-5 with somewhere down the line (maybe 2-3 years) I will be able to walk away from corporate and be my own boss. Well, five months later I was laid off from my corporate job. There again, life had a different plan for me. I was given the opportunity to step out of faith and do what I love.

I took the biggest jump in faith and signed a lease for a salon studio.

LAVISH28 is not just about protecting your natural hair but we also offer amazing products that nourish and moisturize your skin and hair. Our products are made with quality ingredients that your skin and hair will love.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not lol. This road had many bumps and roundabouts.

Becoming a young mother made it difficult for me to complete cosmetology at my first attempt. Fast forward 7 years I now find myself married and pregnant with my third child. Halfway through my second attempt at completing cosmetology I was placed on strict bedrest and forced to quit the program.

My years in corporate were in the mortgage field and for those that don’t know it’s like a rollercoaster. The money was amazing, but the ups and downs can be very stressful. I survived some layoffs and some I did not.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
After working a number of corporate jobs and being let down time and time again. I was finally able to understand my worth, With the crisis going on in this world I knew I had 2 choices, either continue in the path I was going. Or jump and take a chance on myself,

The Covid-19 Crisis let me know that at a blink of an eye something can be taken from me. But it can also present new possibilities.
