Rising Stars: Meet Maggie Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Williams.

Hi Maggie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started my bakery sort of by happenstance. My partner at the time was going through some extreme GI issues, so we tried dozens of gluten-free recipes and various GF flours to adapt the foods we loved to accommodate the new restrictions. Those efforts gained some appeal at their office, which lead to their bosses ordering 30+ Thanksgiving pies from me for their entire office. Due to that, my brother motivated me to make it all official- so I applied for my LLC and got to work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. About the time I was starting to pick up traction and was hired to supply several local businesses with their baked goods on resale, Covid happened. It was impossible or too expensive to find the ingredients I needed, and the other businesses temporarily closed, so the lack of demand really hit home. Now we are facing record inflation and rising gas prices. I am one of the only food-based small businesses in town that have NOT raised our prices this year, and we don’t intend to. We want to stay affordable for everyone, but that still doesn’t always mean people can splurge on boutique bakery items.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in homemade, hand-delivered baked goods that are made to order. We offer gluten-free options that taste as good as their traditional gluten counterparts. A lot of our customers call us with specific diet restrictions (nut allergies, no salt or sugar, keto diet, etc.) and we are proud to offer selections that taste as good as they crave while catering to their dietary needs.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I am definitely grateful to the other locally owned businesses who have invited us in for open houses or events highlighting locally owned businesses, such as Sweetwater Coffee and Café.
