Conversations with Daniel Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Hall.

Hi Daniel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
All my life, I’ve been drawn to music. It always made me feel good. I have been singing since I had a voice. I have been writing music and rapping for 12 years. I have been producing music for 7+ years. I have featured and produced for other artists. I have grown as a performer, composer, and writer for multiple genres in music. Currently, I perform in clubs, bars, and venues around the Detroit Metropolitan areas. On occasions, I will guest host an open mic. When I am not doing anything music, I’m pursuing acting. I have been in an accredited movie as well as short films.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I had a hard time finding friends with the same interests because I had to relocate several times. I always stood out from the rest of my peers. I had to struggle with society’s judgements. I overcame the challenges by exposing myself to different genres and appreciating the history.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make music. I rap, I sing, I produce. I am also a sound engineer for myself and other artists. I am best known for my poetry. I make old-school rap with a new-school feeling. I go to record shops and pick out LPs from the 60s – 90s and give them a new light. Topics that I discuss can either pertain to what’s going on in the world today or just playful with my music.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about Detroit is the nightlife also the sights to see and the border that separates Michigan from Canada. What I like least is the traffic.
