Meet Selena Martinez of SpunkyNailz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Selena Martinez. 

Hi Selena, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My passion for nails started when I was about 15 years old. It was the first time I ever had my nails painted; I still remember it like yesterday. At first, it was me and some of my friends at school, they would bring nail polish and nail tips to school and my fascination for it grew. And so, I would paint my friends’ nails, or glue false nails on with Elmer’s glue. We were kids so we were unaware as to which glue was supposed to be used and well as kids school glue was convenient. Fast forward to my adult years, I worked jobs, some were great others I felt it wasn’t my calling. But most times due to me having to work to provide for my children I would do my nails at home. Seeing as I didn’t have time to make an appointment with the salon. I would just try different ways of doing nail art and people would really like my nails when they seen them. Some even advised that I should pursue it. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my 3rd child around when COVID -19 hit families really bad, that I truly pursued being a nail artist full-time. What better time I thought seeing as everyone had to take serious precautions during such an epidemic. From there I started creating press on nails for women to express their beauty and fashion sense their way. And here we are today as a full-time nail artist. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a balance of both. My reason I say that is because yes financially it has been difficult to the point I questioned if that was my calling. What helped with balance to make it a bit smooth is my love and passion for it, especially every time I create a set, I couldn’t believe I actually did that. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SpunkyNailz?
I specialize in creating press-on nails in gel polish. I am known for creating unique sets with unique Nail Art every set is unique and it is one of a kind I do not remake the same style sets, so everything is one of the kind. I feel that’s what really makes my brand stand out from others. What I am most proud of when it comes to my brand is that this is a vision that happened when I was 15 and it is something that is a reality today. 

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me is how people feel and how comfortable they feel in their own skin with their own fashion sense. This is important to me because I love how I feel in my skin and how I feel when I’m comfortable in my own skin and that’s something that I want to be able to spread worldwide.
