Today we’d like to introduce you to Quazaa Mayberry.
Hi Quazaa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was born in Grand Rapids, MI, and started my professional career in the clothing and merchandise industry. When the pandemic hit, my life, both personal and business, took some unforeseen turns. The one thing that was constant was having a cup of coffee, and that soon became the center of every important turn in my life.
The first cup of coffee I ever had was given to me by my wife, Darlene, and I’ve had one in my hand ever since. I drink coffee when I’m on business calls and in meetings, when I attend community events, and when I’m bonding with my family.
For me, coffee is a comfort, giving me something to enjoy in situations. It also helps me focus on the task at hand. This was the feeling that I wanted to capture and infuse into my products and the feeling that I wanted to share with others. And that’s how Quazaam’s Coffee was born!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think every new venture is going to be a bit rocky in the beginning, and that was the case for Quazaam’s. When I started, I had to learn a new industry – how to make it work, how to produce the product, and how to share that passion with customers. That was a struggle at first. I also had to learn how to build and develop trusting relationships with others that could help me along the way.
We’ve been impressed with Quazaam’s Coffee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Quazaam’s Coffee is a premium coffee that is sold exclusively online across the country. We believe that coffee is the center of some of the most important events in someone’s life, and we want ours to be the ‘go-to’ brand when people are creating new memories or reliving old favorites. We want people to enjoy our coffee now and incorporate it into their futures.
Our blends are made from locally sourced premium beans and are prepared using the patented Sivetz roasting system. This process allows for full control over the entire roasting process and creates a precise, uniform environment that gives a full-bodied brew.
We roast our beans on a daily basis and package them shortly before shipping. Our customers receive fresh, flavorful coffee that’s ready to be brewed and enjoyed. We offer traditional flavors such as our House and Signature blends, fan-favorite Bourbon Pecan, and seasonal flavors such as Blueberry and Peppermint Mocha, in whole beans, ground, espresso, and k-cups.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We believe in our communities and are proud to help to transcend barriers and to be present for important conversations. For example, every Friday we donate coffee to Grand Rapids’ own Boston Neighborhood Association. At their Coffee and Conversation meetings, both elected representatives and local residents meet to discuss local needs over cups of our coffee. This is a big part of our mission and something we’re very proud to facilitate.
Grand Rapids is a great place for entrepreneurs and small business owners. There’s an excitement and enthusiasm which I see every time a new business opens. It invigorates the city and encourages growth.
The downside is that everything seems to be getting more and more expensive. The price of progress, I suppose.
